RoWorld Beginner Guide

Your first ten minutes, from capital placement to your first defended border.

Last updated:

RoWorld drops you onto a shared world map with one capital and nothing else. Everything after that is a consequence of three decisions: where you place, what you buy first, and which border you watch. This guide walks through those decisions in the order you will actually face them.

Before the match loads

RoWorld is free to play on Roblox and runs in your browser or the desktop app. Click into the experience and you will land in a lobby with several rows: public matches, world matches, a “Humans VS Nations” team room and a solo panel with three difficulty chips. Pick a solo Standard run if you have never played — it protects you for three minutes and gives you a live map with no human neighbours to ambush you.

The solo difficulties are not cosmetic. Relaxed gives you a five-minute protected window and mild opponents, Standard gives you three minutes and normal opponents, and Brutal gives you two minutes while the AI hunts you early. The game states it plainly on the Brutal chip: nations leave you alone for two minutes, then they do not.

Step one: choose your capital

A banner reading “CHOOSE YOUR STARTING LOCATION” appears with a five-second countdown, and you can move your capital until it hits zero. When “THE WAR BEGINS” appears, the placement is locked.

Three rules decide whether a capital is good:

  1. Start on unclaimed land. You cannot place inside someone else’s territory, and starting next to a large AI nation means you are the first target on their list.
  2. Avoid narrow land. If your capital touches water on three sides, you have two enemies and no interior to expand into. Prefer a position with a broad landward frontier.
  3. Think about the map, not the first minute. Coastal starts look safe but a player with a Port can cross the water and land an army on your shore. If you start on a coast, plan to build a Defense Post early.

The nation list explains what each starting nation is strongest at, and the map list covers which maps are friendliest to new players.

Step two: survive the PROTECTED window

For the first few minutes of a match you are marked PROTECTED and cannot be attacked. That timer is printed at the top of the screen: five minutes on Relaxed, three on Standard, two on Brutal. It is a free land-grab window, not a truce you can fight in.

Use the protected time for exactly three things:

  • Expand into empty land. Unclaimed tiles are the cheapest territory in the game. Claim them before the timer runs out and nobody can take them back.
  • Build your first City. It raises your troop cap and it is the structure everything else depends on.
  • Read the map, not just your own corner. Find out who is next to you and who is next to them. A player with two enemies is a much bigger threat than a single neighbour with a thin border.

Step three: the first four minutes

The moment the protected timer ends, the game starts moving fast. Here is the build order that works most often:

  1. City first. It is the cheapest structure that raises your troop cap, and everything aggressive depends on how many troops you can field.
  2. Expand continuously. Click unclaimed tiles as soon as they are adjacent to your territory. Each click spends troops from the same pool you use to attack, so keep an eye on the controls reference for how the attack ratio interacts with it.
  3. Save for a Defense Post the moment a human neighbour appears. A Defense Post multiplies enemy casualties and slows their advance inside its radius. It is the cheapest insurance in the game.
  4. Factory or Port next. Both turn territory into money. The economy guide explains when each one pays for itself.

Step four: defend before you attack

Most new players lose their capital in the first ten minutes because they spend everything on expansion and leave their border open. Resist that. Expansion without a defended border just hands a neighbour a free win.

Keep a reserve of troops at home. Never send your last units anywhere. If a neighbour is pressing you, a single Defense Post plus a reserve buys you the time to finish your economy.

You now know the opening. The controls and HUD reference explains every button on your screen, the gold and buildings guide explains how to grow income, and the expansion strategy guide explains how to push toward the 80% victory condition without throwing away your army.

One last warning: RoWorld launched as RoFront and was renamed in October 2026. Old videos still use the old name, but the mechanics are identical and the game is the same one.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the questions RoWorld players ask most.

How do I start RoWorld as a new player?

Join a solo Standard match first. You get a three-minute protected window, a live map and no human neighbours, which is the fastest way to learn the controls and HUD without losing your capital.

What is the best starting location in RoWorld?

Pick unclaimed land with a wide landward frontier and avoid narrow coastal pockets. The nation list breaks down what each start is good for, and the map list covers the eleven maps.

What should I build first in RoWorld?

A City. It is the cheapest structure that raises your troop cap, and every aggressive plan in the game depends on how many troops you can field at once.

How long is the protected time at the start of a match?

Five minutes on Relaxed, three minutes on Standard and two minutes on Brutal. You cannot be attacked while it runs, so use it to claim free land and build your first City.

Why did I lose my capital in my first match?

Almost always because you spent every troop on expansion and left your border open. Keep a reserve, place a Defense Post the moment a human neighbour appears, and read the expansion strategy guide.
